Visual Cacophony

The Fox Theatre in Detroit gets my vote for the most bizarrely beautiful place on earth. That being said, it's also the most difficult to photograph. Best to focus on details rather than try to get a full shot...but...even the details are detailed and there's way too much information in the photo and it becomes an enigma wrapped in a riddle and you put the camera away and say, "You just gotta see it in person..."

Winter...Spring...Winter...Winter...Winter...

I've tried to mimic this effect in PhotoShop more times than I care to admit. Nature always does it best. "Nature: We're just better."

One of the reasons I love Michigan is that for several months of the year it can easily be confused with Narnia.

This is the typical Michigan "snow in April" shot. Add a robin freezing it's red tummy off and you've got the quintessential above the fold shot.

Lesson Learned...

I knew Obama was going to be in town today and didn't think much about it...until I heard extra loud helicopter blades chopping overhead. Lesson learned: Keep camera at arm's reach. Unfortunately I couldn't grab and shoot fast enough, so this was shot through the window screen...and I don't think this is Marine One, I think it's one of the security choppers.
...and there they go. Off into the sunset. Those expensive helicopters move fast! They're like drag-race copters! By the time I sprinted the 15 feet to the west windows they were dots on the horizon. Those zippy engines must be why they have an $11billion price tag.

No Line on the Horizon

Lake fog blurred sky and water into one blue mass creating some odd optical illusions. Even from the shore it was disorienting, especially since there was no fog on shore.

Express

I know tilt-shift effects are overused, but every now and then a shot comes along begging for it.
